There is nothing more disappointing than a book that is SO beautiful on the outside, but so disappointing on the inside. (This is perhaps one of the reasons that Halo has been sitting unread on my shelves for over a year). I wanted to like this book so badly. The cover's gorgeous, it's purple, and the cover actually SHIMMERS when it catches the light. The narrator's voice didn't appeal to me, and I wasn't a fan of how it just launched into the whole angel thing, without really explaining anything. There were mentions of the fact that she had super speed, could learn any language, and fly, but I didn't really understand why the angels were or what their purpose was (there is mention of her purpose, but it's all over the place with her continually spacing out and having these dream-like sequences). Then, when her mom does explain the angel thing, around page 60 (and I was tempted to give up before then), her reaction was absolutely LAUGHABLE. So I had enough. Time to move on and return the pretty book to the library.
