I'll admit, I was drawn in by the cover of this one. I had NO idea what the book was about when I picked it up, but the cover was pretty and the blurb on the inside of the jacket drew me in.Dead to You is the story of Ethan, who was abducted at the age of seven and, in the opening pages of the story, is reunited with his family at the age of 16. The immediate thing that irked me about Ethan's character is the fact that he's so well-adjusted. He has his little quirks that come from the experience that he's been through (such as laughing hysterically when a situation becomes overwhelming), but on the whole, he's remarkably calm about the fact that he'd been kidnapped and kept away from his family for nine years. The only other abduction story that I've read recently is Emma Donoghue's Room (which is on a totally different, and much more intense scale) and, although it isn't really an apples-to-apples comparison, I felt that Ethan should have been a little more traumatized from his experience.Yet, despite these shortcomings, the book really does have a great twist that I didn't entirely see coming. Well, I did a little, but then it still surprised me. And, for the ending alone, this book is definitely a good read! Plus, the cover is pretty!
