I read this book for the first time in Grade 12, when I was just getting into reading "adult" books. After reading, and loving, The Poisonwood Bible, I chose this book because it was another Oprah Book Club selection. I had to read it in two weeks because it was in high demand on the library, and I remember just devouring it.Re-read it in 2008 for a book club and it was a tougher slog to get through it the second time. It's a good book, despite the length and the subject matter, but I think it was just harder to read the second time because it wasn't a new experience. Probably like reading The Stand twice. It's a book that you right once, not more than once.
