I. Love. This. Book. I read this book for the first time in the spring of 1999, when I was in Grade 11. It was one of the first "adult" books that I read, and my teacher was very proud of me that I chose this book to review for the class. Then, I read it again in a class that I took with Christine St. Peter and fell even more in love with the book. The third time I read the book, was in American Lit, and I loved it still more the third time. The most amazing thing is that the first time I read this book, I was 17 and totally identified with Rachel. I thought that I would feel the same as her if my life was uprooted and moved to Africa. The second time, I loved Ada(h) and the way she sees the world and plays with words. And, finally, the third time, it was Leah who stole my heart. Three different readings, and three different experiences.
